E’65 REUNION
Yes, a reunion!
Sitting in our top corridor classrooms in 1965, who was thinking about a reunion of the class of E'65 in 2025, with those of us still healthy enough to gather and reconnect, as individuals in our latish seventies? I guess the thought wouldn't have crossed our minds. We had other things to occupy our thoughts! Maybe relationships, applications for Varsity, sport, weekend plans, our impending nine months in the SADF, …...(the list goes on)
Well, reunion time is fast approaching, whether imagined in 1965 or not! Here's a quick update of the current plans for March next year.
Ice Breaker:
We're all invited (classmates as well as partners) to an Ice Breaker event on Thursday evening 13 March 2025. There'll be snacks and a cash bar, probably name tags (will we need those?) and nostalgia might dictate that some of us remain until the early hours.
School and Boarding House Tour:
For Friday afternoon 14 March you may like to join a Boarding House tour at 2:00pm, or go on a School tour at 3:00pm.
OBU Dinner:
That evening, 14 March, is the OBU annual dinner at Kelvin Grove. Booking details will be announced in the Bosch Newsletter, and there'll be several E'65 tables. Local classmates will lend some of the internationals a jacket and tie (if needed) for an unforgettable evening.
Recreation:
Saturday 15 March sees several informal options: maybe you'd like a morning of golf at the Mowbray Golf Club, or to join a group at Groot Constantia, or perhaps a beach walk is more to your taste.
Family Braai:
There'll be a Family Braai on Sunday 16 March at midday, based at the school Cricket Pavilion. It'll naturally be catered and bar facilities will be available. Partners and kids are all welcome.
Momento:
We'll also have the option of purchasing a classy coffee mug memento of the reunion.
Memoir:
The memoir that Ian P and Jonathan D are collating is progressing well and we will be publishing it as a web based document before the reunion.
We have bios from almost 60 of the 81 OBs that we have contact details for. If you are one of the ones that has not responded please help us produce as complete as possible memoir. We are all interested in what you did after school and would like to include you in the memoir with your other school friends.
There are also 22 of our class that have already passed and 13 for whom we have no contact details.
We also have an interesting selection of photos ranging from primary school class pictures to various school plays, E'65 class and sporting pictures and pictures from past reunions. Great memories! If you have any others of interest we are still accepting submissions.
General:
E'65 members will be invited to attend as many, or as few, of the events as they choose. An email is planned for the first week of December this year, in which final details will be presented. Included will be a form, asking you to commit to (book for) whichever events appeal to you. The return date for the replies will be 31 January 2025 for all activities, other than the Kelvin Grove OBU Dinner, which will have to be booked separately.
Overseas members would be wise to ask a local old boy (or relative or friend) to pay for the events chosen, and then reimburse them when you're here in person!
In the meanwhile, no action needs to be taken, other than to organise your travel arrangements if you're out of town. The purpose of this email was to update you on the planning and hopefully to spark some enthusiasm and a twinge of anticipation!
