Sent 4th December 2024

Hi xxxx,

Thanks so much to all those who responded to our “expression of interest” survey with regards to the Reunion next year. Your feedback was helpful, and essential, in assisting us to make preliminary bookings for the weekend.

Herewith is the link (see below) for the Booking Form for the reunion events, where prepayment is necessary. This email is being sent to the whole mailing list, irrespective of your answers to our earlier survey. You may have changed your mind in the interim, so this is the opportunity for firm bookings. Even if you are not attending, please respond as such.

There are only three items on the Booking Form as the others do not involve payment to E’65.

MEMENTO MUGS

This is a unique mug, of high quality, with illustrations on both front and back. The supplier has kindly agreed to keep the price at R100. It will be attractively gift wrapped in a box. The mugs will be available at the Ice Breaker on Thursday.

THE ICE BREAKER

This will be held on Thursday evening (13 March) 6:30 for 7:00pm at Kelvin Grove. There is access control and secure parking. The cost is R300 per person. The generous snacks are kosher (with vegetarian options), and there will be a cash bar. On a cautionary note, the venue ("The Pavilion") is upstairs and there is no lift. While the venue is upstairs, the toilets are downstairs, so this (unfortunately) probably precludes anyone who has mobility challenges. Partners are welcome, and the booking form will ask you for the name of your "plus one" (for the purposes of producing the name tags).

THE LAMB BRAAI ON SUNDAY 16 MARCH

This will take place at 12:00 noon at the Cricket Pavilion at RBHS. Food from 1:00pm. Parking will be on the grounds, with easy access to the venue without staircases. The lamb braai is kosher. There will be roast potatoes and a variety of salads. Partners are welcome. The cost is R180 per person. There are no bar facilities, so you will need to bring your own drinks and refreshments (in a cooler bag), as well as your own glasses. Local old boys will hopefully liaise with those from upcountry or overseas, to assist with glasses and refreshments.

THE BOOKING FORM PROCEDURE

The closing date for submission of your bookings and the payment thereof is 31 January 2025. Please submit these in good time, despite all the distractions of the Festive Season and New Year celebrations.

Payments can be made to the Reunion account as follows:

  • Please use your surname plus initials as your reference. E.g. Tim Owen would be OwenTMM, (as anyone in the A1 Latin class with Mike Welsh would know!)

  • Account Name

R Ramsbottom

Savings Account

Standard Bank Rondebosch

Account Number 07-361-379-7

  • If you live overseas and do not have family, or a friend, who can pay for you, please contact Ian Webster. There is an alternative method which can be used for international payment.

The cut-off date will be strictly enforced, because we need to pay deposits.

Unfortunately, there can be no refunds after 31 January. If ill health or circumstances dictate that you will be missing an event for which you have paid, we will attempt to encourage another old boy to take your booking and reimburse you privately. If this is not possible, we will regrettably not be able to refund you.

OTHER REUNION ACTIVITIES

There are other activities planned for the occasion, but as no payment is required by us, these are not listed here. In summary,

  • there will be tours of Canigou and of the School on Friday afternoon 14 March;

  • on the Saturday morning 15 March, there are several options:

    • Golf with Hugo Allison;

    • a walk in Groot Constantia with Dave Cornell, or

    • a stroll along the Muizenberg/St James coastal path with Rod Douglas.

All these activities will be advertised with sign-ups at the Ice Breaker on Thursday evening.

  • The annual OBU Dinner at Kelvin is on Friday evening 14 March. We are unable to book for this on your behalf. It will be advertised in the Old Boys' Newsletter and you will need to respond very smartly to this. Places tend to be filled very quickly, so please book without delay, as soon as you are notified of the cost and procedure. Ask to be seated at the E'65 tables!
