Dear xxxxx,
RONDEBOSCH E’65 – 60th CLASS REUNION
"A sixtieth class reunion?", I hear you ask. 60th? Well, if one matriculated at the age of 18, that would make those attending 78 years old! Who'd have thought about that in 1965?
I was somewhat startled to learn on BBC News today that global life expectancy is 74 years. That figure seems to hint that we're living somewhat on borrowed time.
Despite the daunting statistics, planning is underway for the 60th reunion of the class of 1965. A variety of events are envisaged for the period Thursday 13th to Sunday 16th March 2025. The traditional OBU Dinner is on Friday 14th. Our immediate goal is to get our email address base current, so that we can connect with as many of the class as is possible. An E'65 WhatsApp group already exists with some 40 plus members, but WhatsApp is, as we know, not welcome by everyone.
Those of us who still live in the Mother City, sometimes get together for informal mini reunions. I confess that I tend to approach such gatherings with a sense of social anxiety, wondering whether I will still recognise everyone or know what they might be talking about. Yet, it is equally true, that I invariably return home with a sense of warmth, fulfilment and feeling more light hearted. The class of 1965 are a good bunch!
So, as the twelve month countdown continues, we'll attempt to keep you informed and motivated. May we keep pushing up that life expectancy figure!
Things to do now:
1. Please respond to this email acknowledging receipt so that I know we have your correct email.
2. Please tell me if you wish to be included in the WhatsApp Group (that’s if you’re not already part of the group).
3. Those of you that live out of Cape Town need to start looking at travel arrangements – the 11 month out air fares are meant to be the cheapest?
We will be in touch again in the next few months with more details.
